Don’t be Pigeon-Holed

Queen: As a budtender I don’t want to get pigeon-holed in the industry. I want this to be a career. Do you have any advice?
Dear Do Not Get Pigeon-holed:

Great question. There are no guarantees, but there are many aspects to consider and possible steps that could be taken.

First and foremost, don’t allow yourself to be pigeon-holed.

Educate yourself. For instance, learn your state’s law regarding cannabis and become well-versed in Federal and State Labor Laws.

Word-smith your experience. A bud-tender’s skills are applicable for sales and customer service. Highlight the skills that make you successful as an individual and a contributor to a company. After-all, bud-tender is essentially a sales person.

Consider a side-gig. If you are a bud-tender part-time, you may take up something on the side that will help build your qualifications toward your career goals.

Network. “It’s who you know and not what you know.” Mingle with anyone and everyone. People are more 4/20 friendly than we think across multiple industries. When you find like-minded people, ask questions and let them know you’re open for new opportunity.

Know your “why.”  Why you consume and be prepared with personal and factual reasons to back yourself up.

Regardless of industry, queens should never allow themselves to be pigeon-holed. Keep fighting the good fight, you can do whatever you commit to. Trust your instincts!

Don’t forget to meet me in the clouds, Queen!

Xoxo,

Miss Haze
